Abstract

Purpose : The purpose of this study is to describe the health promotion experience of elderly women and to help understand their health practice, and provide guidelines to developing appropriate nursing interventions.

Method : Data was collected through interviews with 3 participants who were over 65 years old and analyzed in terms of Strauss and Corbin"s (1990) grounded theory methodology.

Results : The Core Category of health promotion of elderly women was identified as "exercise-oriented pursuing of health". The Process of this could be 4 stages: the stage of concern about health, the stage of enjoy on leisure life and community health center, the stage of new healthy life style, and the stage of confidence and satisfaction. Elderly women were seeking for health continuously. And. the type of participants was identified with 3 types: first type is enjoying leisure time, second type is pursuing of health, and third type is management of chronic illness.

Conclusion : This study is contributed to provide data for nursing interventions for health promotion and developing health education in elderly women by increasing understanding of the experiences of health promotion.
